Middletown church auctioned for $180,000

The St. James Church of God in Christ building sold at auction Thursday for the bargain-basement price of $180,000.

The winning bid was made by locals: Danny Petrizzo, buying with his brother-in-law and business partner Franco Fidanza, president of Planet Wings Enterprises. They’d like to keep the church property as something to benefit the community, Petrizzo said, and they’re open to the idea of housing a church in at least part of the 15,000-square-foot structure at 137-139 Linden Ave.

That was good news for the second-highest bidders, a group from the Church of Christ. After the sale, they traded business cards with Petrizzo. If the terms are right, the Church of Christ might consider renting some of the space for its 45-60 member congregation. www.recordonline.com
