Sherwood Hall Auction

Auctioneers will start the bidding for the controversial sale of the former Sherwood Hall leisure centre site at £875,000.

A local government ombudsman investigator said she had reached a decision over an official complaint about the district council’s decision to sell the building.

Assistant ombudsman Karen Hill said she had made recommendations to the chief ombudsman but refused to disclose her decision as it was still subject to approval by others.

Ms Hill said: “We have enough information to come to a view and we have recommended a provisional decision.

“But the chief ombudsman could change her mind and it will be a few weeks, possibly even a month or two, before a final decision’s released.”

The draft decision will go to the district council and the complainant to allow them to comment before the final decision.

A spokeswoman for Barnard Marcus auctioneers confirmed the guide price for the Limetree Road site, which will go to auction in London today.
