Approximately 600 acres of land in the heart of Ohio’s Amish country will be sold at auction Saturday, May 17, with Albert Burney Auction Company managing the sale. Sugarcreek earned the name of the “Little Switzerland of Ohio” because of its diverse Swiss, German and Amish populations.
The property, which will sell in 21 tracts, includes land suitable for hunting, ranchettes, private estates and residential development, according to Warren Ward, president of Albert Burney.

The incoming president of the Irish Auctioneers’ and Valuers’ Institute (IAVI) told members at its agm on Monday that Ireland’s housing market has undergone a correction that will prove to be”a short-term blip.”
Edward Carey told members that this 10 per cent correction has brought prices back to end of 2005 levels and said “allegations of a property crash” should be taken in context against huge cumulative increases since the early 1970s until the market slowdown in March last year. A local government ombudsman investigator said she had reached a decision over an official complaint about the district council’s decision to sell the building.

An architectural firm placed the winning bid on the Mont Vernon Inn, securing the building for $470,000 Saturday morning. Now the firm will begin looking for ways to bring the historic building back to its former glory.
