Manila government auctions off 4 hotels

PUBLISHED 8 November 2007

The city government of Manila, through its Committee on Public Auction, successfully auctioned off yesterday the Grand Boulevard Hotel, Silahis International Hotel, Hotel Sofitel, and Pacific Hotel Corporation for being delinquent properties.

The winning bidder, private developer Pacific Wide Realty and Development Corporation, won the bid in the amount of R106, 650,000.

Secretary to the Mayor Atty. Rafaelito Garayblas said the public auction was undertaken as an administrative remedy for the collection of real property taxes and arrears on tax payments of delinquent properties in Manila.

City Legal Officer Atty. Renato G. de la Cruz, who is also the chairman of the Committee on Public Auction, said the amount paid by Pacific Wide Realty and Development Corporation was a long overdue collectible that will form part of the city’s general fund for various programs.

The Committee on Public Auction is composed of City Treasurer Liberty M. Toledo, City Assessor Lourdes G. Laderas, Atty. Marissa E. Timones of the Register of Deeds, and Ma. Jazmin M. Talegon, chief of the Real Estate Division of the City Treasurer’s Office.

The last public auction in the City of Manila was conducted in Nov. 2006. Before the year ends, De la Cruz said the city government will again auction off more delinquent real properties.
