A Limerick hotelier has paid almost euro 10 million, or euro 2mn euro per acre, by public Tender, for the once controversial halting site on the Dublin Road.
The five acre landbank, which had been occupied by Travellers for 16 years, was put up for public tender by Limerick County Council, through Rooney Auctioneers.
The purchaser is Pat Hoare, who owns the adjoining Kilmurry Lodge Hotel. He was not available for comment.
Already, German discount store Lidl have expressed an interest in locating a second Limerick store/off licence there, with a planning application before the County Council. Their business rival, Aldi, are scheduled to open their second Limerick outlet only a few hundred yards away, within weeks.
