Bridgeport property auctions take $638,000

PUBLISHED 5 May 2007

The city sold 11 residential building lots and two houses at the Thursday night auction, which were acquired through foreclosure.
It was the sixth time the city has put property up for auction, and a seventh with 15 properties on the block will take place in about three weeks. A firm date has not been set.
“This sale demonstrated the people want to invest in developing and building housing in Bridgeport,” Mayor John M. Fabrizi said Friday. “We put 13 nonproductive properties back on the tax rolls.”
The auction netted $638,000 in revenue for the city provided the successful bidders close on the properties within 30 days as specified in the auction rules.
The mayor said, overall, the city has sold more than 100 surplus properties since it began the series of auctions early last year.
