Forest Service Selling Four Houses at Auction in The Black Hills

PUBLISHED 5 March 2007

The Forest Service is hosting open houses to show 4 homes being sold in Deadwood, Spearfish, and Newcastle. The houses, which are no longer needed for management of the forest, will be sold at competitive auction hosted by the General Services Administration (GSA).

The internet based auction will start Thursday, April 5, 2007. Proceeds from the auction will be used to design and construct new office space for the Hell Canyon Ranger District in Custer.

Potential buyers will have an opportunity to view the properties during open houses scheduled for Friday, March 30, 12-5p.m. and Saturday, March 31, 10-6 p.m. and also Friday, April 20, 12-5 p.m. and Saturday, April 21, 10-6 p.m.

The GSA auction will start April 5, 2007, and will run for a 45 day period. The auction will have a ’soft close feature’. This means that once GSA nears the end of the auction, the auction will continue to be extended an additional 24 hours upon the receipt of each new bid, until no more bids are received in a 24 hour period.

Bid information can be found on the GSA website http://propertydisposal.gsa.gov/property/. Bidders packages will be available at GSA on April 5
