Mohave County to hold public land auction

PUBLISHED 1 March 2007

Mohave Daily News – Mohave County parcels will soon go on sale at a public auction held in Kingman.

The auction will be held March 27 to sell off county parcels whose owners failed to pay property taxes, Clerk of the Board Barbara Bracken said.

This is the fourth year in a row since 1982 that the county will auction off land in which the property owner failed to pay his or her taxes for seven consecutive years. This year about 300 parcels will go up for auction. The county auction is held once a year in March.

Parcels to be auctioned this year are located mostly in the Valle Vista area with some parcels in Lake Mead Rancheros and Kingman. Most of the minimum bids for the parcels will range from $1,000 to $2,000.

The money collected will go to the county’s taxing district including schools, fire, Mohave Community College, flood and library districts, school bonds and the county’s general fund.

In 2006, the county auctioned off 102 parcels and collected more than $1.3 million in county land that was auctioned. The county collected more than $1.88 million in 2005 when more than 265 parcels were auctioned off, Bracken said.

All the properties will be sold as is. There are no warranties or promises made to the property’s condition including the availability of water, utilities, sewer, access, zoning, suitability for building, flood plain status or road maintenance.

The forms of payments for the parcels are cash, cashier checks, personal check or money order for the full amount of the bid. Successful bidders are expected to pay for the parcel the day of the sale, Bracken said.

Bidders should inspect the property before the auction. Bidders must also fill out a registration form.

The registration form can be found on the county’s Web site. Bidders should arrive between 8 and 9:30 a.m. to apply for a bidding number.

All sales are final. No refunds will be made. The minimum bid is no less than 50 percent of the total delinquent amount plus administration fees for each parcel, Bracken said.

The auction will be from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Board of Supervisors auditorium, located at 700 W. Beale St. in Kingman.

A list of the parcels and registration forms are available at the Clerk of the Board’s Office or on the county’s Web site at www.co. mohave.az.us
