Developers are hiking or reviewing their selling prices on the back of bullish sentiment in the property market following Tuesday’s healthy land auction for two sites at Kowloon Tong and Ma On Shan.
Cheung Kong (Holdings) (0001) will add up to 8.8 percent at its Sausalito project in Ma On Shan, pushing prices up to as much as HK$8,000 per square foot for some waterfront-view units, when it restarts sales this weekend.

Hong Kong’s latest government land auction made a great success Tuesday by reaping 5.18 billion HK dollars (664 million U.S. dollars) on two sites totaled at 22, 528 square meters.
Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-shing’s Cheung Kong won the auction of the larger lot at 176,960 square foot (16,400 square meter) in Ma On Shan, New Territories for 3.24 billion HK dollars (417 million U.S. dollars).

After days of dilly-dallying, the government has finally put on hold the auction of land in the tourist resort of Gulmarg. The decision follows widespread protests and fears that if the land is leased to “outsiders”, it will undermine the special identity granted to the state under Article 370 of the Constitution.
But the government’s backing down has only helped widen the gap between the Valley and the rest of the country. The decision to put land lease on hold means that no big hotel chain will invest in Gulmarg.

A Hong Kong-listed developer has called off a global auction of one of Shanghai’s most expensive apartment buildings, blaming government restrictions on foreign investment in Chinese real estate.
Tomson Group Ltd has been struggling with little success for a year to sell parts of its plush Tomson Riviera residential complex, where the biggest units have been offered at US$20 million or more.
