Bidding War Expected Over Popular UK Pub

PUBLISHED 2 October 2006

The Clarendon Arms, in Redhall Lane, Chandlers Cross, is going under the hammer on October 18 and auctioneers at Allsop in central London are expecting a £1.3million bidding war.

The pub is a two-floor property with a restaurant, and also has a beer garden and large car park with 53 spaces. The first floor provides staff accommodation of six rooms and two bathrooms, and there is a detatched coach house that provides extra space on two levels.

The pub is currently run by Massive Ltd, who are two years into a 10-year lease and pay £89,042 rent per year, and the change of ownership will not affect the tenants or their lease arrangement.

George Walker, auctioneer at Allsop, said: “Pubs tend to sell quite well. Two people have wanted to buy it already and it’s a good start but I think it will go to auction.

“You never know where people will finish bidding. We’re expecting £1.2million but it could be £1.3million.”
