South African Estate for auction
SLAIN mining magnate Brett Kebble‘s luxury holiday compound in the Southern Cape – situated on the banks of the picturesque Breede River and worth approximately R7-million – will be auctioned off at the end of next month.
Described as “awesome†by the auctioneers, the property at Malgas, near Swellendam, includes a jetty, floodlit tennis court and large swimming pool.
The impressive-looking wooden homestead is made up of several double-storey residences.
These are opulent, log cabinstyle structures set on expansive, manicured lawns with the main house boasting spacious wraparound patios.
Alon Kowen, managing director of Auction Alliance which is handling the deal, said the sale of the property would be conducted on behalf of the trustees of Kebble‘s insolvent estate.
The property consists of four adjoining erven, three of which belong to the Malgas Trust set up by Kebble, while the fourth was owned by Kebble himself.
“The auction will take place on site on July 28,†Kowen said. “It‘s an awesome property and we expect interest from far and wide.â€
Kowen, who said he had been fielding calls all day about the auction, said it was uncertain what kind of price the property would fetch. “But there is a high demand for a property like this so we anticipate a very generous price.â€
He said the property was 2ha in size and there were various buildings on it. “So it‘s actually more of a compound.â€
Andre Van Heerden, of SAB and T Trustees who are the trustees of Kebble‘s estate, also said he had been inundated with calls, mostly from the media, following the announcement of the auction.
