Less than a third of properties offered for auction sell under the hammer, according to new research by estate agents Douglas Newman Good (DNG).
In the last four weeks, 256 properties were auctioned in the Dublin area. However, just 83 of these – 32 per cent – were sold at auction.

THE upmarket health-clubs company Esporta is in talks to sell its freehold property assets for more than £300m.
The group is believed to have received a number of unsolicited approaches about a possible sale-and-leaseback of its racket clubs. It has asked its regular adviser Citigroup to handle the inquiries.
The current favourite to clinch a deal is Maple Leaf, the privately owned property vehicle of the Landesberg family, best known for their involvement with Admiral Taverns, a pub company.

A courthouse auction in Columbia County had 1,300 acres up for sale with the going price of $1 million.
The auction is yet another legal step in a year of three separate lawsuits and three separate judgments against Frank Steedley, a Fort White landowner. The first lawsuit stemmed from an overtime pay issue, the following two lawsuits the result of attorneys who prevailed in a defamation action.
Combined, all the judgments topped $10 million. A judge ordered the property sold to satisfy the judgments.

Farmland Industries Inc.’s former headquarters near Kansas City International Airport will be auctioned for sale, the property’s auctioneer announced on Wednesday.
Sealed bids are due Aug. 17 to Sheldon Good & Co. Auctions LLC of Chicago. The bids will be evaluated and a decision will be made within 10 days.
The building at 12200 N. Ambassador Drive is vacant.
Pritzker Realty Group LP, the building’s Chicago-based owner, listed the property for sale in February 2005 for $20 million, or $77 a square foot.

Black Country auctioneers and property investment company Bond Wolfe has won the tender for all of Sandwell Council’s property auction work.
The contract was won in a competitive pitch and it means that West Bromwich-based Bond Wolfe is now the appointed auctioneer for Birmingham and Wolverhampton councils and British Waterways as well as Sandwell Council.
The tender takes effect immediately and already Bond Wolfe has been instructed on eight high-profile land disposals in the July 19 auction at the Holte Suite at Aston Villa FC.

A 400-year-old pub in Powys which was badly damaged in a fire in 2005 is to go under the hammer at auction.
The Grade II listed Three Tuns, in the literary town of Hay-on-Wye, has been in landlady Lucy Powell’s family for 85 years.
She had intended to restore the pub, but said she was “under insured†and only received a small settlement.
Miss Powell said she would be sad to see the pub go, but had “great memories†of her time there.
