Bids pass $2m for land at Matawhero NZ

PUBLISHED 29 April 2006

A large parcel of land in Awapuni Road failed to sell at a Harvey’s auction on Thursday but attracted strong interest from two parties, one of who made a top offer of 2.25 million.

The other bidder offered 2.2 million.

The 19.5 hectares adjacent to the Juken New Zealand mill are in three titles and likely to be rezoned rural industrial, Gisborne District Council having indicated a future change, marketing agent David Egan said.

The property was some of the most fertile land in the district, Mr Egan said. It included three houses and a cottage, and was close to the industrial area with services already in the vicinity.

The land had been in a family for many years and had been well looked after, Mr Egan said.

Two other properties were offered at the auction. A three-bedroom home at Patutahi went for $167,500 after auctioneer Philip Searle used vendor bids to achieve the sale price.

There was no response to Mr Searle’s opening bid of $900,000 for a six-hectare property at Brown Road, featuring an established citrus orchard and a four-bedroom home.
