Burlington Island for auction

PUBLISHED 17 March 2006

About a third of the largest Mississippi River island in the Burlington area is ready to go on the auction block.

John Roth, who owns the land with his brothers, Lanny and Bill, said Wednesday that three tracts on Burlington Island will be sold as hunting ground in April.

Burlington Island, which has its north end near Crapo Park and its southern edge south of the Des Moines/Lee county line, long has been a favorite spot for duck and deer hunters.

“The hunting land really is at a premium right now,” John Roth said, noting that the family’s 487 acres on the island are being surveyed this week.

The land will be split into three tracts, each about 160 acres, and sold at auction by Sullivan Auctioneers & Realty of Hamilton, Ill.
