Frank Lloyd Wright house for auction next week

A Michigan house designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright shortly before his death goes on the auction block next week.
The seller is the original owner, Don Schaberg, the Lansing State Journal reports. Wright designed the house for Schaberg and his wife in 1958.

Moscow hotel makes $274m (£159m) at auction

A landmark 34-storey hotel in the Russian capital has fetched $274m (£159m) at auction.
The 1,000-room Ukraina Hotel was one of seven “Stalinist Gothic” skyscrapers built in Moscow in the 1950s.
It is famous for its spires and turrets ornamented with wheat sheaves and the Communist hammer-and-sickle emblem.

Melbourne housing market improves

FURTHER signs of Melbourne’s housing market rebounding have emerged with the LJ Hooker/BIS Shrapnel Residential Property Index reporting a 4.4 per cent rise in the September quarter.
The index recorded a 5.6 per cent rise in Melbourne house prices over the year ending the September quarter.

A loft at 1010 St. Charles Street downtown drew a high bid of $300,100 Monday after a 10-day auction through the online site. Owner Andrew Hoefener posted the property Nov. 4 and started the asking price at $1. He bought the custom-designed, 2,070-square-foot unit in 2001 for $235,000, including upgrades.
